GOVERNOR'S RESIDENCE OPEN FOR PUBLIC TOURS NOW THROUGH AUGUST -- May 11, 2006

Governor Tim Pawlenty and First Lady Mary Pawlenty announced that the Governor's Residence opens to the public for tours beginning today, Thursday, May 11.  Just as in 2003, 2004 and 2005, tours of the Residence are held the last three Thursdays of each month, May through August.

"The Residence belongs to the people of Minnesota," Governor Pawlenty said.  "The First Lady and I invite Minnesotans to visit this marvelous place."

The Residence was originally designated as the State Ceremonial Building for official public use and as a Governor's residence in 1965, after it was donated to the state of Minnesota by the Horace Hills Irvine family.

"We are deeply grateful to the Irvine family," First Lady Mary Pawlenty said. "Olivia Irvine Dodge has been so gracious to our state, generously giving Minnesota her family home that holds such precious memories."

Those wishing to schedule a group tour should call (651) 297-2161. Tours run from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., are free of charge and are guided by the Docents of the Minnesota Historical Society Women's Organization. A photo ID is required for admittance.
