GENERAL NOTES

The Minnesota Constitutional Debates, 1857, the United States Census, 1857, the Minnesota Legislative Manual, 1872, and the Journal of the Senate 1857-58, list his last name as Bailly; Toensing lists Bailey.

He was listed as being 28 years old in the 1857 Census so he must have been born around 1829.

His father was one-fourth Ottawa Indian. (The Life of Alexis Bailly, Minnesota Pioneer)

His mother, Lucy Faribault, "was the child of a French trader and a mixed-blood mother." (Gilman, Rhoda. Henry Hastings Sibley: Divided Heart. St. Paul: Minnesota Historical Society, 2004.)
