He moved to a rural area near Le Center, Minnesota in 1911, with his family. He retired to Spring Hill, Florida.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He died from a heart attack while fishing on Lake Jefferson near his summer home in Cleveland, Minnesota. His funeral was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was buried in Calvary Cemetery.
