He moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1917.He served as Secretary of the North Dakota State Socialist Party, 1913-1916. He was the General Secretary of the National Nonpartisan League, 1916 to 1923. He was elected to the United States Congress as a member of the Farmer-Labor Party.
