She was born on the Norfolk, Virginia Naval base. She moved to St. Cloud, Minnesota in 1988.
She ran unsuccessfully for the Minnesota Senate in the 2000 and 2002 elections.
She ran unsuccessfully as the endorsed Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party candidate for the 6th Congressional District seat in the United States House of Representatives in the 2010 election.
She unsuccessfully sought the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party endorsement to run for the 8th Congressional District seat in the United States House of Representatives in the 2012 election. She lost the endorsement to Rick Nolan, ran in the primary without endorsement, and lost the primary election.
