From the Minnesota Department of Health....
It's always interesting to browse through the latest batch of reports from the Minnesota Department of Health; they touch on such a wide variety of issues! Some reports reflect the investigative and research components of the Department while others focus on state health policy or public health initiatives.
The Library recently received two reports that examine the impact of the environment on public health: Minnesota Climate and Health Profile Report: An Assessment of Climate Change Impacts on the Health & Well-Being of Minnesotans and Life and Breath: How Air Pollution Affects Public Health in the Twin Cities (produced jointly with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency). Public health in relationship to income and employment is another focus of recent research: White Paper on Income and Health and White Paper on Paid Leave and Health.
Medical cannabis has been in the news of late in Minnesota. A new report summarizes clinical trials and studies related to the use of cannabis for specific medical conditions: A Review of Medical Cannabis Studies Relating to Chemical Compositions and Dosages for Qualifying Medical Conditions.
The Department issues a number of statistical reports on an ongoing basis that provide both a snapshot in time and a record of trends over the years. Minnesota Health Statistics Annual Summary and an earlier report, Minnesota Health Statistics, provide data that goes back decades. The Library has reports back to 1972. Another continuing report, Adverse Health Events in Minnesota Hospitals, compiles statewide annual data and also includes data by health facility; it's also searchable via a database.
These reports represent just a tiny fraction of the information available from the Minnesota Department of Health. One initiative, the Minnesota Public Health Data Access portal, offers a wealth of data by topic and by county.
