GOVERNOR APPOINTS SEVEN TO COMMISSION ON NATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICES -- July 3, 2003
 

Saint Paul -- Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Terrell Adams, Keith Dixon, Ph.D., Jay Esmay, Robert Ferderer and Robert Rumpza and the reappointment of Paul Cumings and David Nasby to the Minnesota Commission on National and Community Service, also known as ServeMinnesota!

Adams, of St. Paul, is a student at Central High School in St. Paul and participates in a number of volunteer projects in the community through his school. Adams is appointed as a youth member to a three-year term that expires on August 1, 2006.

Cumings, of Grove City, is a student at Augsburg College in Minneapolis and is involved in a wealth of volunteer activities at college and at home. Cumings, who has been a member of ServeMinnesota! since 1999, is reappointed as a representative of higher education-based learning programs for a three-year term that expires on August 1, 2006.

Dixon, of Faribault, is the superintendent of Faribault Public Schools. Dixon replaces Don Helmstetter as a representative of educators of primary or secondary students to complete a three-year term that expires on August 1, 2004.

Esmay, of St. Cloud, is the corporate continuous improvement team manager with Cold Spring Granite Company and previously served as an officer in the United States Air Force. Esmay is appointed to a new position for a three-year term that expires on August 1, 2006.

Ferderer, of Eagan, is a private mediator/arbitrator. He was director of communications and government affairs at 3M, where he worked for 34 years. Ferderer is appointed to a new position for a three-year term that expires on August 1, 2006.

Nasby, of Minneapolis, is vice president of the General Mills Foundation. He has been a member of ServeMinnesota! since 1999 and is a past chairman. Nasby is reappointed as a representative of business for a three-year term that expires on August 1, 2006.

Rumpza, of Eden Prairie, is executive vice president and head of corporate relations with Weber Shandwick in Bloomington. Rumpza is appointed to a new position for a three-year term that expires on August 1, 2006.

The Minnesota Commission on National and Community Service coordinates volunteer learning service programs, administers the youth works grant program as well as the federal Americorps program. The commission consists of 25 members, including 22 appointed by the governor, plus ex-officio members.
