GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS THREE TO THE BOARD OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS -- January 26, 2005
 

Saint Paul -- Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the reappointment of Sanford Nelson and the appointment of Jean Haar and Bruce Kramer to the Board of School Administrators.

Sanford Nelson, of Richwood, is the principal of Rossman and Callaway Elementary in Detroit Lakes. He has been with Detroit Lakes Public Schools since 1990. Nelson previously served as an elementary principal for Onamia Public Schools. He has taught in Craig, Colorado; Bagley, Minnesota; Powell, Wyoming; Long Prairie, Minnesota, and Melrose, Minnesota. Nelson received a B.A. in Elementary Education from Gustavus Adolphus College and a M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Cloud State University. He is appointed to the Board position for an elementary principal and will serve a term which ends January 5, 2009. Nelson joined the Board in 2001.

Jean Haar, of Mankato, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at Minnesota State University-Mankato. Her career in k-12 education included working as a classroom teacher in Rutland, South Dakota and as principal of Deuel High School in Clear Lake, South Dakota. Haar received, B.A. in English and a M.A. in Educational Administration from South Dakota State University in Brookings, and a Ph.D. in Administration, Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is appointed to the Board position for a higher education faculty member and will serve a term which ends January 5, 2009. Haar replaces Kenneth LaCroix on the Board.

Bruce Kramer, of Minneapolis, is the Chair of the Department of Leadership, Policy and Administration at the University of St. Thomas. He previously served as a high school principal at the International School Bangkok in Thailand, the Cairo American College High School in Egypt, and the Stavanger American School in Norway. Kramer received a B.S. in Psychology and Music Education and a M.M. in Vocal Performance from Ball State University in Indiana, and a Ph.D. in Foundations and Administration from Purdue University. He is appointed to the Board position for a higher education administrator and will serve a term which ends January 1, 2007. Kramer replaces Ann Zweber-Werner on the Board.

The Board of School Administrators is responsible for (1) the licensing of school administrators; (2) the approval of higher education programs and continuing education courses for school administrators; and (3) enforcement of the code of ethics for school administrators. The board is made up of ten members appointed by the Governor.
