GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS FAHEY TO THE MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE -- July 14, 2005

Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Michael A. Fahey to the Board of Directors of the Minnesota State High School League.

Michael A. Fahey, of Carver, currently serves as the Carver County Attorney.  Prior to being elected to this position in 1987, he was in private practice in Chaska from 1978 through 1986.

Fahey currently serves as the commissioner for middle school football programs for the Chaska Area Football Association and is a volunteer attorney for the Minnesota Baseball Association Board of Directors.  He also currently serves as a staff writer for The Guillotine, Minnesota's Amateur Wrestling Newspaper.

Fahey is a graduate of Norwood Young America Central High School where he participated in football, wrestling, track, and cross-country.  He received a B.A. from St. John's University, in Collegeville, where he was a member of the track and cross-country teams.  Fahey received a J.D. from St. Louis University School of Law.

Fahey will serve a four-year term which ends July 31, 2009.  He replaces Ann Yonamine on the Board.  Fahey previously served on the Board from 1993-1997.

The Minnesota State High School League is a voluntary, nonprofit association of over 400 public and private schools.  Member schools provide opportunities for more than 200,000 Minnesota high school students to participate in athletics and fine arts competitions each year.  The League administers the state tournaments for athletics, speech, music and dramatics.

The League provides support for member schools with programs that address sportsmanship, chemical health, and scholarship recognition. The League also oversees more than 4,500 registered contest officials and judges. The Board of Directors for the League consists of 20 members, including four appointed by the Governor.
