GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS PETERSON TO THE COUNCIL ON DISABILITY -- September 27, 2005
 

Saint Paul - Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the reappointment of Kathleen Peterson to the Council on Disability. 

Kathleen Peterson, of Warren, is currently employed by the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.  She works in Disability Support Services and is the manager of interpreter services for university students. 

Peterson is involved in her community, and has served on the executive board of the Warren Parent Teacher Association.  She has also been a member of the Greater Grand Forks Support Group for Parents of Deaf/Hard of Hearing Children.  Peterson also founded "Socialization Day," an annual workshop for deaf/hard of hearing students, their parents, interpreters, and teachers. 

Peterson also has previous experience serving on statewide councils.  She previously served as a member of the Minnesota Commission Serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing People.  Peterson also previously served as a member, and board chair, of the Special Education Advisory Council. 

Peterson is appointed to the Council for a three-year term which ends January 7, 2008.  She is a resident of Region one and was first appointed to the Council in 2002.  She and her husband, Dwight, live on a farm in Marshall County.  They are the parents of three boys. 

The Council on Disability advises the Governor and Legislature on issues, policies, and programs related to persons with disabilities.  The Council also promotes coordinated interagency efforts and provides information and referrals to persons with disabilities.  The Council is made up of 21 public members appointed by the Governor as well as additional members from various state agencies.
