GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS TWO TO BOARD OF ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING, LAND SURVEYING, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE, GEOSCIENCE, AND INTERIOR DESIGN -- November 14, 2005
 

Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Kristine A. Kubes and Patrick Parsley to the Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design.

 

Kubes, of Minneapolis, is an attorney in the construction law group with Meagher and Geer, in Minneapolis, a position she has held since 2002.  Prior to joining Meagher Geer, she practiced in construction and surety law, contracts and appeals with Thomas R. Olson and Associates from 1998 to 2002.  She was a judicial law clerk on the Minnesota Court of Appeals for Judges Robert H. Schumacher (1998), Fred C. Norton (1993 - 1998), and Doris Ohlsen Huspeni (1990 - 1992).  Kubes was also a professor's assistant in the French MBA program at the University of Rennes, France in 1992.

 

Kubes earned her law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1990, and her bachelor of arts degree from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul in 1986.  She is a member of the American Bar Association, where she serves on the Forum on the Construction Industry, and is a member of the TIPS/Fidelity and Surety Law Committee, as well as the Minnesota State Bar Association, where she serves on the Construction Law Section.  Kubes is also a member of the Hennepin County Bar Association, and Minnesota Women Lawyers, and has been a speaker at numerous continuing legal education seminars on construction issues.  In addition to her professional activities, she is a community crusade block coordinator with the American Cancer Society, and a volunteer and choir member at Visitation Catholic Church in Minneapolis.

 

Kubes replaces Stephanie Ball as a public member to complete a four-year term that expires on January 5, 2009.

 

Parsley, of Fairmont, is the city of Fairmont building official, where he is responsible for all aspects of building code adoption and enforcement for commercial and residential construction.  He has been Fairmont's building official since 1989.  He has also owned Pat Parsley Inspection Company, where he conducts plan reviews, inspections and bookkeeping, since 1994, and had owned Pat Parsley Construction Company from 1987 to 1989.

 

Parsley has been a certified building official in Minnesota since 1989.  He has also been a certified plans examiner since 1991 and a certified building official since 1994 with the International Codes Council (ICC).  Parsley is a member of the ICC's 10,000 Lakes Chapter, and the ICC Association of Minnesota Building Officials, where he was its founding board secretary, is currently executive secretary, and a member of its legislative and code committees.  He is also a member and past president of the International Certified Building Officials (ICBO) Southwest Minnesota Chapter, and a member and past president of the ICBO Minnesota Building Officials Chapter's Board of Directors.  Parsley received the Minnesota Building Officials' "Code Official of the Year" award in 1998.

 

Parsley replaces Rick Breezee as a public member to complete a four-year term that expires on January 5, 2009

 

The Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design licenses and regulates architects, engineers, land surveyors, landscape architects, geoscientists and certifies interior designers.  The board consists of 21 members appointed by the Governor.
