GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS SIX TO BOARD OF TEACHING -- February 9, 2009
 

Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Jeffrey Anderson, Daniel Bittman, Kristi Delaney, and Ron Hill; and the reappointment of Jennifer Brist and Leonard Runck to the Minnesota Board of Teaching.

Anderson, of Austin, has taught school in the Austin Public School District for over 17 years. He was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2002-2004, where he served on the education policy committee. Anderson received his bachelors of science degree in teaching from Minnesota State University-Mankato. He is appointed as a classroom teacher member to fulfill a four-year term that expires January 3, 2011 and replaces Maggie Knutson on the board.

Bittman, of Lino Lakes, is the director of elementary and secondary school in the Centennial School District. He formerly served as the assistant commissioner and director of educator licensing and teacher quality for the Minnesota Department of Education. Bittman holds a doctor of education degree and a master of arts degree in educational leadership from the University of Las Vegas-Nevada, and a bachelor of arts degree in secondary education and Spanish from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Bittman is appointed as an administrator member to a four-year term that expires January 7, 2013 and replaces Asad Zaman on the board.

Brist, of Crookston, is a fourth grade teacher in the Crookston Public Schools. She holds a bachelor of science degree in education from Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and is currently working on a masters of education degree in reading education from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Brist is reappointed as a classroom teacher member of the board to a four-year term that expires January 7, 2013.

Delaney, of Woodbury, is a full time first grade teacher at Liberty Ridge Elementary school in Woodbury. She has over 18 years of classroom teaching experience. Delaney earned her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from Bethel University in St. Paul. She is appointed as a classroom teacher member to a four-year term that expires on January 7, 2013 and replaces Charlene Delaney on the board.

Hill, of Savage, is the owner and president of Minndakota Stores, a business he has owned for more than 18 years. For the past nine years, Hill has been a school board member for Independent School District 191, including Burnsville, Eagan, and Savage schools. He is the vice-chair of the operations committee and serves on both the policy and labor negation committees. Hill earned his bachelor of science degree in finance from the University of Minnesota. He is appointed as a school board member to a four-year term that expires January 7, 2013 and replaces Todd Johnson on the board.

Runck, of Lamberton, is the district network administrator and technology coordinator for Red Rock Central School District 2884. He plans, designs, and implements technology needs for the district. Runck coordinated the Lamberton Public School concert band from 1979 to 1996. He holds bachelor of science degrees in education and music performance from Minnesota State University-Mankato. He is reappointed as a teacher member to a four-year term that expires January 7, 2013.

The Board of Teaching provides leadership for improvements in teacher education programs and assures that the state has well-qualified, professional teachers. The board determines the standards and practices that will serve the state's teachers and teacher preparation institutions. The board consists of 11 members appointed by the Governor.
