GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS THREE TO BOARD OF WATER AND SOIL RESOURCES -- May 6, 2009
 

Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Tom Loveall and John Meyer, and the reappointment of Robert Burandt to the Board of Water and Soil Resources. All are appointed to four-year terms that expire January 7, 2013.

Burandt, of Waconia, is an elected Carver County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor. Burandt also serves as the treasurer of his Soil and Water Conservation District and is a fifth generation owner of Burandt Lakeview Farms. He is reappointed as a soil and water conservation district supervisor member of the board.

Loveall, of Winnebago, is the chair of the Faribault County Board of Commissioners. He is an experienced small business and land owner, and member of the Waterville Area Lakes Association, Ducks Unlimited, and Faribault County Pheasants Forever. Loveall is appointed as a county commissioner member of the board.

Meyer, of Rollingstone, is the owner and operator of Quarry Hill Dairy, LLP., a 625 cow and 1000 acre crop operation. He is a member of the Winona Chamber of Commerce, Farm Bureau, and Southeast Minnesota Ag Alliance. Meyer has a degree in dairy heard management from Hutchinson Vocational Technical College. He is appointed as a public member to the board.

The Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) is the state’s administrative agency for 91 soil and water conservation districts, 43 watershed districts, 27 metropolitan watersheds, and 80 county water management organizations. The agency’s purpose, working through local government, is to protect and enhance the state’s irreplaceable soil and water resources by implementing the state’s soil and water conservation policy, comprehensive local water management, and the Wetland Conservation Act as it relates to the 41.7 million acres of private land in Minnesota. The board consists of 17 members, including 12 members appointed by the Governor.
