GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS THREE TO GOVERNOR'S RESIDENCE COUNCIL -- June 15, 2009
 

Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Mary Jane Miller and Lynne Schoen, and the reappointment of Dr. Victoria Young to the Governor’s Residence Council (GRC).

Miller, of Buffalo, is a culinary consultant to corporations where she provides executive-level guidance on food trends, product development, and recipe content. She has previously been a culinary instructor at Des Moines (Iowa) Area Community College, a catering and restaurant manager, and an independent chef. Miller holds a bachelor of science degree in family and consumer sciences from Iowa State University in Ames. She is active with the Minnesota Sustainable Farming Association where she serves on its Events and Youth Outreach Committee and on the Crow Wing Chapter Board of Directors. She is also on the Buffalo Food Shelf Board of Directors, chief organizer of the Minnesota Garlic Festival, and a frequent cook, teach and choir member at Buffalo United Methodist Church. Miller replaces Marjorie Dean on the GRC as a public member to complete a four-year term that expires on January 3, 2011.

Schoen, of Roseville, is the operations administrator for transformational and principal gifts with the University of Minnesota Foundation. She has over 15 years of experience in fundraising and development as well as eight years of experience in general administration and management, which include serving as a senior assistant to former St. Paul Mayor Norm Coleman as well as business manager and executive director for the State and Orpheum Theatres. Schoen holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. Her volunteer activities include chairing the NCAA Final Four Basketball Command Center in 2001 and chairing the NCAA Final Four Basketball Special Events Committee in 1992. Schoen replaces Maureen Shaver on the GRC as a public member to complete a four-year term that expires on January 3, 2011.

Young, of North Oaks, is an associate professor of modern architecture and the allied arts in the Department of Art History at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, and the director of the St. Thomas’s Art History Graduate Program. She is a member Board of Directors of the Minnesota Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians and a member of the Minnesota State Historic Review Board. Young holds a doctor of philosophy degree in architectural history, a master of architectural history from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, and a bachelor of arts degree in architectural history summa cum laude from New York University.

Young, who has been a member of the GRC since 2005, is reappointed as a representative of higher education to another four-year term that expires on January 7, 2013.

The Governor’s Residence Council develops and implements an overall restoration plan for the governor’s residence and surrounding grounds and solicits contributions to restore, maintain, improve and furnish the building. The council consists of 19 members, including 13 appointed by the Governor.
