GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS FOUR TO BOARD OF BARBER EXAMINERS -- June 24, 2009
 

Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Theresa Iliff, Douglas Klemenhagen, Francis R. “Frank” Plant, and Michael Vekich to the Board of Barber Examiners.

Iliff, of Little Canada, is a partner and operator of Three Irishmen/Airport Barber Stylists as well as the owner and operator of City Salon in Minneapolis. Iliff is appointed as a barber member to a term that expires on January 4, 2010.

Klemenhagen, of Northfield, is the owner of, and a barber with, Farmington Barber and Beauty. Klemenhagen is appointed as a barber member to a term that expires on January 2, 2012.

Plant, of Fridley, is a barber with Silver Shears Barber Shop in New Brighton. Plant is appointed as a barber member to a term that expires on January 7, 2013.

Vekich, of St. Louis Park, is a CPA and is CEO of Vekich Associates in Minneapolis. He has been a member and chair of numerous state boards as well as the boards of private businesses and organizations. Vekich is appointed as a public member to a term that expires on January 3, 2011.

The 2009 Legislature (Laws of Minnesota 2009, Chapter 78, Article 6) split the Board of Barber and Cosmetologist Examiners into two separate boards effective July 1, 2009. Barber members of the Board of Barber and Cosmetologist Examiners are transferred to the new Board of Barber Examiners and will serve the remainder of their unexpired term on the new board. The Board of Barber Examiners will oversee the administration, enforcement, regulation, and adoption of rules regulating the barber profession. The board will consist of four members appointed by the Governor, including three barbers and one public member.
