GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS MEMBERS TO CORRECTIONS STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS TASK FORCE -- August 17, 2009
 

Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced his appointments to the Corrections Strategic Management and Operations Advisory Task Force. This task force was created by the 2009 Legislature to provide an assessment that identifies strategies and makes recommendations to improve efficiency in corrections and reduce the inmate per diem for the Department of Corrections. The Governor’s appointees are Sheldon Anderson, Dr. Bernadine Bryant, Dr. Kimberly R. Greer, William M. Hutton, Dr. Charles A. Liedtke, Robert G. McMahon, Susan E. Mills, and John S. Vollum.

Anderson, of Wyoming, owns Capital Investigations and Security Services, Inc. in St. Paul, is a licensed private investigator, and serves as Mayor of the City of Wyoming. He is a member of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association and the Minnesota Association of Private Detectives and Protective Agents. Anderson is appointed to a position for a private sector representative.

Bryant, of Bloomington, has held a number of positions in administration in Minnesota colleges, including vice president of administrative services as well as interim president at Normandale Community College in Bloomington, interim vice president of finance and operations at Century College in White Bear Lake, and director of human resources for the Minnesota Community College Systems. Bryant is appointed to a position for a post-secondary education representative.

Greer, of Mankato, is an associate professor and past chair of the Department of Sociology and Corrections at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Her numerous professional activities have included chairing the Minnesota Department of Corrections Advisory Task Force on Female Offenders and currently serving as president of the Crime Victim Services, Inc. Board of Directors. Greer is appointed to a position for a post-secondary education representative.

Hutton, of Stillwater, is the Washington County Sheriff, where he oversees a 27 million dollar budget, 235 employees and a 228 bed jail. He has previously been a captain with the Oakdale Police Department and executive director of the Forest Lake Area Youth Service Bureau. Hutton is appointed to a position for a county sheriff.

Liedtke, of Excelsior, owns Strategic Improvement Systems, a management consulting company. He is also an adjunct faculty member of the Wisconsin School of Business and a research team member at the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management. He earned his doctorate degree in business specializing in strategy, strategic improvement, and quantitative analysis. Liedtke is appointed to a position for a post-secondary education representative.

McMahon, of Mendota Heights, recently retired as the senior vice president of property development at Target Corporation after a 22-year career at Target. He started the inventory management pyramid at Target and ran multiple merchandising divisions. McMahon is appointed to a position for a private sector representative.

Mills, of Crookston, is the executive director of Tri-County Community Corrections in Crookston where she serves as chief executive officer of the Northwest Regional Corrections Center, a 200 bed adult jail facility. She has 33 years of experience with Tri-County Community Corrections and the Northwest Regional Corrections Center. Mills is appointed to a position for a community corrections act director or community probation office department director.

Vollum, of Carver, is the principal and owner of The Wellspring Group in Carver. His operational and strategic improvement projects have included a number of state agencies, including the Minnesota Department of Corrections. Prior to his work as a private sector consultant, he was a program director in the Department of Professional Development at the University of Minnesota. Vollum is appointed to a position for a private sector representative.

The Corrections Strategic Management and Operations Advisory Task Force consists of 15 members, including eight appointed by the Governor. The task force is required to report to the Governor and Legislature by February 15, 2010. This task force expires on June 30, 2010.
