GOVERNOR PAWLENTY REAPPOINTS THREE TO BOARD OF DIETETICS AND NUTRITION PRACTICE -- September 11, 2009
 

Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the reappointment of Carol Haggerty, Darlene Kvist, and Janelle Peterson to the Board of Dietetics and Nutrition Practice.

Haggerty, of St. Paul, is active in her community, where she currently serves as co-chair of the St. Anthony Park Refugee Core Committee, and has also tutored foreign university students through the St. Paul Literacy Council. Professionally, she held underwriting positions with Residential Funding Corporation and Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation. She holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Minnesota. Haggerty, who has been a member of the board since 2007, is reappointed as a public member to a four-year term that expires on July 31, 2013.

Kvist, of St. Paul, has owned Nutritional Weight and Wellness since 1989, where she also serves as a psychonutritional counselor and educator. Previously, she was a special education teacher with the Wayzata Public Schools and an elementary education teacher with the Eden Prairie Public Schools. Kvist is a licensed nutritionist with the State of Minnesota and a certified nutrition specialist with the American College of Nutrition. She is a member of the American College of Nutrition and the National Nutritional Foods Association. Kvist earned her master of science degree from St. Cloud State University and her bachelor of science degree from Winona State University. Kvist, who has been a member of the board since 2006, is reappointed as a licensed nutritionist member to a four-year term that expires on July 31, 2013.

Peterson, of Minneapolis, is a nutrition specialist with Pediatric Home Service in Roseville, a position she has held since 2003. Previously, she was a clinical nutrition manager with Children’s Hospitals and Clinics in St. Paul and Minneapolis, a dialysis technician with the Abbott Northwestern Outpatient Dialysis Unit in Minneapolis, and a pediatric/neonatal dietician with University Medical Center of Eastern Carolina in Greenville, North Carolina. Peterson has been a registered dietician for nearly 20 years and is a licensed dietician in the State of Minnesota. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association and the American Society for Parental and Enteral Nutrition, where she served as secretary of the Minnesota Chapter. She earned her bachelor of science degree in dietetics and psychology from Mankato State University. Peterson, who has been a member of the board since 2005, is reappointed as a licensed dietician member to a four-year term that expires on July 31, 2012.

The Board of Dietetics and Nutrition Practice licenses and disciplines dieticians and nutritionists. The board consists of seven members appointed by the Governor, including two licensed dieticians with at least three years of dietetic practice in Minnesota, two licensed nutritionists with at least three years of practice in Minnesota, and three public members.
