GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS FIVE TO EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES REGULATORY BOARD -- January 8, 2010
 

Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Michael S. Gormley, and the reappointment of Michael S. Jordan, Patrick W. Lee, Gary S. Pearson, and Marlys Tanner to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Regulatory Board. All five are appointed to four-year terms that expire on January 6, 2014.

Gormley, of Bricelyn, is the Faribault County Sheriff, a position he has held since 2007. He was a deputy Faribault County Sheriff from 1995 to 2007, became lead investigator in 2002, and second in command in 2006. He has also been the Kiester Police Chief and a part-time police officer with the city of Minnesota Lake. Gormley holds a bachelor of science degree in law enforcement from Mankato State University, is a certified D.A.R.E. officer, and participated in a federal internship with the U.S. Customs Service Criminal Division in Minneapolis. Gormley is a volunteer with Bricelyn Fire and Ambulance, and serves as a member of the Faribault County Fire Association, Faribault County Ambulance Association, South Central Drug Investigative Unit Executive Board, Faribault Methamphetamine Education Task Force, Faribault County Adult and Child Protection Teams, and Children First of Faribault County. Gormley replaces Robert Jensen on the EMS Regulatory Board as a representative of county sheriffs.

Jordan, of Apple Valley, is the director of civil rights with the city of Minneapolis. He has over 30 years of experience working in a variety of positions in government, corporate, and non-profits, which include serving as the public information coordinator for the St. Paul Police Department and commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, and business unit director for Honeywell, Inc. Jordan earned his juris doctorate degree from the University of St. Thomas Law School in Minneapolis, his master’s degree in management from Stanford University Graduate School of Business in Stanford, California, and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota. Jordan, who has been a member of the EMS Regulatory Board since April 2009, is reappointed as a public member.

Lee, of Two Harbors, is the executive director of the Arrowhead EMS Association in Duluth. Previously, he was the CEO and Director of Lake County Ambulance, and has 20 years of experience as a professional manager in the EMS field. He is a member of the Northeastern Minnesota Regional Advisory Committee, Northeast Regional Hospital Preparedness Group Executive Board, Region 2 Homeland Security Emergency Management Board, and Minnesota Ambulance Strike Team, and has served on numerous EMS-related boards in the past, including the Arrowhead EMS Board of Directors. Lee holds an associate of arts degree from the University of Minnesota, Crookston. Lee, who has been a member of the EMS Regulatory Board since October 2009, is reappointed to a position for a representative of a non-metro EMS program.

Pearson, of Wadena, is the director of outstate ambulance operations and support services for North Memorial Ambulance Service, where he has administrative responsibility for eight ambulance regions and 17 ambulance bases. He is also an adjunct professor in the master of arts in management program at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. Pearson has more than 35 years of experience in the EMS and law enforcement fields. He is a member of the Minnesota State Trauma Advisory Council, Minnesota Ambulance Association Board, and State Stroke Committee, and has served on numerous EMS-related boards in the past. Pearson holds a master of arts degree in business management from the College of St. Scholastica, a mini MBA in health care management from the College of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, and a bachelor of science degree from Bemidji State University. Pearson, who has been a member of the EMS Regulatory Board since October 2009, is reappointed to a position for a representative of ambulance service directors.

Tanner, of Carlton, is the nurse manager of emergency services at St. Luke’s Hospital and Regional Trauma Center in Duluth, a position she has held since 1999. She has been the trauma program manager and a clinical as well as a charge nurse in the emergency department at St. Luke’s Hospital. Tanner holds a bachelor of science degree in health arts from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, and a diploma in nursing from Broadlawns Polk County Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Tanner is a member of the Arrowhead EMS Association, and Emergency Nurses Association (ENA), where she has served as president of the Minnesota ENA and the Lake Superior Chapter of the ENA. Tanner, who has been a member of the EMS Regulatory Board since 2006, is reappointed as a representative of registered nurses practicing in a hospital emergency department.

The Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board makes recommendations on improving access, delivery and effectiveness of the state’s EMS delivery system and establishes procedures for investigating, hearing and resolving complaints against EMS providers. The board consists of 19 members, including 15 appointed by the Governor.
