GOVERNOR PAWLENTY REAPPOINTS DAUGAARD AND JACKSON -- January 20, 2010
 

Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the reappointment of Joyce Daugaard and Gwendolyn Jackson to the Board of the Minnesota State Academies. Both members are reappointed to four-year terms that expire on January 6, 2014.

Daugaard, of Edina, is a grant manager for deaf/hard of hearing teacher training programs with the University of Minnesota (U of M) as well as an instructor with the U of M’s Graduate Studies in Deaf Education. She has also been the coordinator of the deaf/hard of hearing program with the Minneapolis Public Schools, and a secondary language arts teacher at the Minnesota School for the Deaf in Faribault. Daugaard holds an academic certification from the Council on Education of the Deaf, earned her licensure as a special education director from the University of Minnesota, a master of science degree from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, and her bachelor of science degree in education, speech communication and English with high honors from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Daugaard, who has been a member of the Board of the Minnesota State Academies since 2004, is reappointed to a position for a public member with business, administration, or financial expertise.

Jackson, of Lakeville, is the director of human resources and administrative services with the Edina Public School District. Previously, she was the superintendent of the Faribault Public School District; held a variety of positions with the Minneapolis Public School District, including interim chief academic officer, elementary superintendent, assistant to the superintendent, executive director of leadership and accountability, and principal on special assignment; was the principal at Kenwood and North Star Elementary Schools; and a teacher at Northview Elementary School. Jackson earned her doctor of philosophy degree in educational administration from the University of Minnesota, master of arts degree in educational administration from the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, and bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from Augsburg College in Minneapolis. Jackson, who has been a member of the Board of the Minnesota State Academies since 2006, is reappointed to a position for a current or former independent school district superintendent.

The Board of the Minnesota State Academies governs the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind and the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf, both in Faribault. The board consists of nine members, including six appointed by the Governor.
