GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS BURNET AND WEAVER TO STATE ARTS BOARD -- January 25, 2010

Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Peggy Burnet and the reappointment of Pamela Perri Weaver to the Minnesota State Arts Board. Both are appointed to four-year terms that expire on January 6, 2014.

Burnet, of Wayzata, is a businesswoman, art collector, and community volunteer. She and her husband, Ralph, own the Chambers Art Hotel in Minneapolis. Along with her daughter, she previously owned and operated the Bookcase – an independent bookstore, and Watermark Stationery in Wayzata. She was also a part-owner of a Caribou coffee shop. Burnet is vice-chair of the Smithsonian National Board – which supports the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. – and chairs its Nominating Committee; and has served on the boards of Minnesota Public Radio, The Children’s Theatre, and Sheltering Arms. Burnet replaces Matthew Anderson on the Minnesota State Arts Board as an at-large member.

Weaver, of Anoka, has been the executive vice president of the Builders Association of Minnesota since 2001, where she has overseen the creation of the Builders Legal Action Fund and started a general liability insurance company for the membership where she served as CEO. She has held a number of positions in government and government affairs for over 22 years, including a public policy advisor to Governor Jesse Ventura, and executive director of Minnesota Citizens for the Arts. Weaver has a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Minnesota. She has volunteered with the Minnesota Film Board and the University of Minnesota early Childhood and Family Learning Advisory Committee. Weaver, who has been a member of the Minnesota State Arts Board since 2002, is reappointed as an at-large member.

The Minnesota State Arts Board provides grants and services to individual artists, arts organizations, schools, colleges and universities, communities, and other organizations that sponsor arts activities. The board consists of 11 members appointed by the Governor.
