GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS FOUR TO ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING, LAND SURVEYING, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE, GEOSCIENCE, AND INTERIOR DESIGN BOARD -- April 12, 2010
 

Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of David W. Krech, Peter G. Miller, and Marjorie Pitz; and the reappointment of Douglas C. Cooley to the Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design.

Cooley, of Long Lake, is the principal and executive vice president with the Michaud Cooley Erickson consulting engineering firm in Minneapolis. He is a licensed professional engineer in Minnesota and a registered professional mechanical engineer in 28 states. Cooley is past president of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. He is also a member of the American Consulting Engineers Council (ACEC) of Minnesota, where he chaired its Mechanical and Electrical Practice Group Education Committee, is a member of the Energy Conservation and Public Utilities Committee, and received the ACEC’s President’s Award in 2002. Cooley earned his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota. Cooley, who has been a member of the board since 2006, is reappointed as a representative of professional engineers.

Krech, of Duluth, is a senior project engineer with the Krech Ojard and Associates engineering and architectural firm in Duluth. He co-founded the firm in 1985, and was also a co-founder and general partner of North Shore Track Services, a railway construction company. Krech has been a licensed professional engineer in Minnesota for 35 years, and holds certification from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. He earned an MBA from the University of Minnesota (U of M) – Duluth, and his bachelor of civil engineering degree with distinction from the U of M – Twin Cities. He is a past president of the Arrowhead Chapter of the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers as well as past president the Duluth Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and also served on its National Committee for Professional Practice. Krech replaces Harvey Harvala on the board as a representative of professional engineers, and is appointed to a four-year term that expires on January 6, 2014.

Miller, of Maple Grove, is a senior project manager and principal with the Wenck Associates, Inc. engineering, environmental and consulting firm in Maple Plain. He is a licensed soil scientist, registered professional wetland scientist, and certified Wetland Delineator in Minnesota with 16 years of experience in the environmental field. Miller earned his bachelor of science degree in environmental studies with a soil and water resources emphasis from the University of Minnesota. Miller is a member of the Minnesota Wetland Professionals Association, Minnesota Onsite Wastewater Association, and the Minnesota Association of Professional Soil Scientists, where he currently chairs its Professional Practice Committee. Miller replaces Mary West on the board as a representative of geoscientists and is appointed to complete a four-year term that expires on January 7, 2013.

Pitz, of St. Paul, is a landscape architect and a principal of Martin & Pitz Associates, Inc., a landscape architectural design and urban planning services firm in Minneapolis. She is a licensed landscape architect in Minnesota with over 35 years of experience in the profession. She has also taught classes in landscape architecture design and visual communications and currently co-teaches therapeutic landscapes at the University of Minnesota (U of M) Center for Spirituality and Healing. Pitz earned her bachelor of landscape architecture degree with distinction from the U of M. She is a fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), and a past president and past trustee of the Minnesota Chapter. Pitz replaces Doris Sullivan on the board as a representative of landscape architects, and is appointed to a four-year term that expires on January 6, 2014.

The Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design licenses and regulates architects, engineers, land surveyors, landscape architects, geoscientists and certifies interior designers. The board consists of 21 members appointed by the Governor.
