Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Kimberly G. Hill to the Minnesota Board of Teaching.

Hill, of Lonsdale, has been a middle school teacher in the Rosemount School District for 24 years, and has National Board Certification in the area of English Language Arts/Early Adolescence. She is currently a reading specialist, working with sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. She has also been the gifted and talented student program coordinator, teacher of reading, American studies, Spanish and French cultural studies, beginning computer science, and general music. Hill earned her master of science degree in experiential education from Mankato State University, and her bachelor of science degree in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. She currently holds appointments by the Board of Teaching as a State Portfolio Reviewer, State College Program Reviewer, and on their On-Site Evaluation of College Program. She has also served on numerous other professional committees and Minnesota Department of Education advisory panels. Hill, who is appointed to a position for a classroom teacher on the Board of Teaching, replaces Jennifer Brist to complete a four-year term that expires on January 7, 2013.

The Board of Teaching provides leadership for improvements in teacher education programs and assures that the state has well-qualified, professional teachers. The board determines the standards and practices that will serve the state's teachers and teacher preparation institutions. The board consists of 11 members appointed by the Governor.
