GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS NEWMAN TO MPCA CITIZENS' BOARD -- October 26, 2010

Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of David P. Newman to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Citizens’ Board.

Newman, of Stillwater, is the owner and president of The Bancor Group, Inc., a residential real estate development company based in Blaine. He has 20 years of experience in residential real estate development and previously was an attorney where he represented municipalities, small businesses and real estate developers. Newman earned his juris doctorate degree from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, and his bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Minnesota.

Newman currently serves as the developer representative on the MPCA’s Alternate on the Minimum Impact Design Standards Workgroup, a member of the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District Rulemaking Task Force, a member of the Washington County Community Development Block Grant Citizen Advisory Committee, a member of the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club, and treasurer of Hope Community, Inc. He has also previously chaired the Fridley Planning Commission, and served on the Fridley School Board. Newman replaces Paige Winebarger on the MPCA Citizens’ Board as a public member, and is appointed to complete a four-year term that expires on January 3, 2011.

The MPCA Citizens' Board considers and makes decisions on varied and complex pollution problems that affect areas of the state. Decisions are intended to achieve a reasonable degree of purity of the water, air and land resources. The Citizens' Board consists of the Commissioner of the MPCA and eight public members appointed by the Governor.
