"Good Morning, Minnesota"
A STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR -- May 21, 2006

The following is a statement from Governor Tim Pawlenty regarding the conclusion of the 2006 legislative session.

"This was a productive legislative session.  Solid public policy was enacted and the debate was mostly civil and cooperative.  Good results were produced for the people we serve.

"The Twins and Gophers stadiums should not overshadow other important bills that passed and moved our state forward.  I'm proud of our work in mercury reduction, support for our veterans and military members, protecting property rights, eliminating the marriage penalty, locking up sex offenders and dangerous persons, reforming and improving health care including mental health and increasing educational rigor.

"In addition, the bonding bill funds many important projects, including the final state piece in the Northstar commuter rail line, expanded prison space, the Rochester bioscience development center, improvements at the Minnesota Zoo and many excellent higher education projects.

"This session helped position Minnesota for an even brighter future."
