GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS THREE TO LEGISLATIVE-CITIZEN COMMISSION ON MINNESOTA RESOURCES -- March 19, 2009
 

Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Norman Moody and Elizabeth Wilkens, and the reappointment of Alfred Berner to the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR).

Berner, of Good Thunder, is a wildlife habitat consultant. He holds doctorate and masters degrees in wildlife management from Michigan State University. He is a life member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, the National Rifle Association, the Ruffed Grouse Society and the Nature Conservancy. He is reappointed as a citizen member to a four-year term that expires January 7, 2013.

Moody, of Hackensack, is a county land commissioner in Cass County. He has experience working for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the University of Minnesota, and has held a number of resource management positions in Beltrami County. Moody earned a master of forestry degree and a bachelor of science in wild life management degree from the University of Minnesota. He is appointed as a citizen member to a four-year term that expires January 7, 2013 and replaces John Hurt on the commission.

Wilkens, of Mora, is a retired educator and township board member. She has a number of years of volunteer work with the Department of Natural Resources; including, instructing bowhunter and firearm safety, facilitating outdoor education programs for women, and serving on the state Fisheries Citizen Oversight Committee. She is a member of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s Citizen Stream Monitoring Program. Wilkens earned her bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Macalester College in St. Paul and her master of science degree in special education, and specialist degree in education administration from St. Cloud State University. She is appointed as a citizen member to fulfill a four-year term that expires January 4, 2010 and replaces David Hartwell on the commission.

The Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources makes funding recommendations to the legislature from the Environment and Natural Resource Trust Fund for special environment and natural resource projects. Funding recommendations are typically for new, innovative, or accelerated projects designed to help sustain, enhance, and utilize Minnesota’s natural resources. The LCCMR has 17 members, five citizens appointed by the Governor, one citizen appointed by the House, one citizen appointed by the Senate, and ten legislators.
