GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS EIGHT TO BOARD OF ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING, LAND SURVEYING, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE, GEOSCIENCE, AND INTERIOR DESIGN -- May 11, 2009
 

Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Mary E. Deeg, David Fisher, James N. Grube, Micki Miller, Carl G. Peterson, and Robert F. Seeger, and the reappointment of Kristine A. Kubes and Mary M. West to the Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design. All eight are appointed to four-year terms that expire on January 7, 2013.

Deeg, of St. Paul, is a senior associate and the director of interiors with RSP Architects in Minneapolis. She is a Minnesota certified interior designer with 24 years of experience. Deeg is a member of the International Interior Design Association, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, and the International Facility Management Association, serves on the University of Minnesota (U of M) College of Design Advisory Board, and previously served on the Brown College Interior Design Advisory Board. Deeg earned her bachelor of science degree in interior design with business collateral from the U of M, and was president of the student chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers. Deeg replaces Rachelle Schoessler Lynn on the board as a representative of certified interior designers.

Fisher, of Maple Grove, is a building official with the city of Maplewood. He is a Minnesota state certified building official and an International Code Council (ICC) certified building inspector with 20 years of municipal building department experience. Fisher is a member of Association of Minnesota Building Officials of the ICC, where he serves on the Education Committee; the State Fire Chiefs Code Committee; and the Minnesota Education Advisory Committee. He was the president of the 10,000 Lakes Chapter of the ICC, a member of the Lake Country Chapter Board of Directors of the International Society of Building Officials (ICBO), and a member of the North Star Chapter of ICBO. Fisher has a bachelor of arts degree from Concordia College, and an associate of arts degree in building inspection technology from North Hennepin Community College. Fisher replaces Patrick Parsley on the board as a public member.

Grube, of Plymouth, is the county engineer and the director of the Hennepin County Transportation Department. He is a licensed professional engineer in Minnesota with over 30 years of public sector engineering experience. Grube is a member of the American Public Works Association (APWA), and past president of the Minnesota Chapter of the APWA; a member of the Minnesota County Engineers Association, where he serves as Chair of the 2011 National Association of County Engineers conference; and a member of the University of Minnesota Center for Transportation Studies Infrastructure Council. He is also a former member and past president of the City Engineers Association of Minnesota, a former member of the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers, and a former director with the Intelligent Transportation Systems Minnesota. Grube earned his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering with distinction from Iowa State University in Ames. Grube replaces Duane Blanck on the board as a representative of professional engineers.

Kubes, of Minneapolis, is an attorney in the construction law group with the Meagher and Geer law firm in Minneapolis where she represents architects, engineers, contractors, and sureties. She is an active member of the American Bar Association Forum on the Construction Industry, and the construction law committees of the Minnesota State Bar and the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Associations. Kubes earned her law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School and her bachelor of arts degree from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul. Kubes, who has been a public member on the Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design since 2005, was just elected chair of the board – the first time in the board’s 88-year history that a public member has been elected chair.

Miller, of Rochester, is a real estate sales associate and certified residential specialist with Edina Realty Home Services in Rochester, where she has earned the company’s top sales production award for 10 years. She is a past president of the Southeast Minnesota Association of Realtors and the recipient of its 2007 Rochester Area Distinguished Service Award. Prior to becoming a realtor, she was a staff registered nurse and nurse manager with St. Mary’s/Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Miller earned her master of science degree in nursing from the University of Minnesota. Miller replaces Mary Ives on the board as a public member.

Peterson, of Rosemount, is a partner in the Peterson, Peterson certified public accounting firm. His work is focused in the real estate and professional service industries. A CPA, he is a member and past chair of the Minnesota Society of CPAs, and is active in its legislative affairs, tax and construction conference. He is also a member of the American Institute of CPAs Governing Council, and the Minnesota Business Ethics Award Steering Committee, and has been an active volunteer in his community and school district. Peterson earned his bachelor of science degree in accounting from Kansas State University in Manhattan. Peterson replaces Diane Johnson on the board as a public member.

Seeger, of Minnetonka, is a senior vice president and chief architect of the Wells Fargo and Company’s Corporate Properties Group. He is a licensed Minnesota architect with 40 years of experience, and is certified with the National Council of Architectural Registration Board and the National Council for Interior Design Qualification. He is a member of the Minneapolis Chapter as well as the Minnesota Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and an AIA Corporate Architects National Committee member. Seeger earned his bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, and did graduate work in the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Seeger replaces Jerome Allen Ritter on the board as a representative of architects.

West, of Brooklyn Center, is a pollution control specialist with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. She is a licensed professional soil scientist in Minnesota with over 23 years of experience, and is certified by the American Registry of Certified Professionals in Agronomy, Crops, and Soils. She is a member of the Minnesota Association of Professional Soil Scientists, Soil Science Society of America, and the Council of Soil Science Examiners Review Team for National Soil Science Exam. West earned her master of science degree in business administration as well as her bachelor of science degree in forestry with a minor in forest soils from Michigan Technological University in Houghton. West, who has been a member of the Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design since 2005, is reappointed as a representative of geoscientists.

The Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design licenses and regulates architects, engineers, land surveyors, landscape architects, geoscientists and certifies interior designers. The board consists of 21 members appointed by the Governor.
