GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS THREE TO MPCA CITIZENS' BOARD -- June 23, 2010
 

Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Eric Gustafson and Mary Riley, and the reappointment of Donald K. Schiefelbein to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Citizens’ Board.

Gustafson, of Edina, is the president of TDX Tech, a Bloomington-based business that provides technology, infrastructure services, and solutions for corporations and government agencies throughout North America. He has held management positions with a number of businesses in Minnesota for nearly 20 years. Gustafson earned his bachelor of arts degree from Colorado College in Colorado Springs. He is a member and treasurer of the Midwest Challenge, Minneapolis Board of Directors; member of the Conservation Minnesota, Minneapolis Board of Directors; Missions, Inc., Plymouth Board of Directors; Edina Rotary; and a deacon with Christ Presbyterian Church in Edina. Gustafson replaces Barbara Battiste on the MPCA Citizens’ Board, and is appointed to a four-year term that expires on January 6, 2014.

Riley, of Rosemount, is a realtor with Coldwell Banker Burnet. She chairs the Rosemount Port Authority, where she has worked with the University of Minnesota on its “Go Green Community Concept”. She chairs the SKB Community Trust Board, is a member of the Regional Dakota County Chamber of Commerce, and volunteers at the River Valley Church in Apple Valley. Riley was a member of the Rosemount City Council from 2000 to 2004, and has served on the Rosemount Redevelopment Committee, Leprechaun Days Committee, Rosemount High School Parent Communication Network, Rosemount High School Senior Party Committee, has been a church Sunday school teacher, and was president of the Irishette Booster Club. Riley replaces Kathy Lohmer on the MPCA Citizens’ Board, and is appointed to complete a four-year term that expires on January 2, 2012.

Schiefelbein, of Kimball, is a partner and chief financial officer of Schiefelbein Farms, a diversified farming operation in Meeker County. He is a former executive director and director of commercial marketing with American Gelbvieh Association, one of the largest beef cattle breeds in the U.S.; and director of breed programs and marketing and membership service specialist with North American Limousin Foundation, a beef cattle breed in North America. Schiefelbein earned his bachelor of science degree in animal science cum laude from Texas A & M University in College Station. Schiefelbein is president-elect of the Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association, co-chair of the Minnesota Beef Profitability Task Force, and a featured speaker at numerous industry meetings and events in the U.S. and Canada. Schiefelbein, who has been a member of the MPCA Citizens’ Board since 2006, is reappointed to a position for a member knowledgeable in the field of agriculture to another four-year term that expires on January 6, 2014.

The MPCA Citizens' Board considers and makes decisions on varied and complex pollution problems that affect areas of the state. Decisions are intended to achieve a reasonable degree of purity of the water, air and land resources. The Citizens' Board consists of the Commissioner of the MPCA and eight public members appointed by the Governor.
