Governor Dayton proclaims Workers Memorial Day in Minnesota

4/27/2011 10:14:43 AM

Governor Mark Dayton has proclaimed Thursday, April 28, 2011 to be Workers Memorial Day, in remembrance of the workers who have been injured or killed on the job in the State of Minnesota and also in recognition of the continuing efforts that are needed to improve safety in highway work zones and at all worksites.

The proclamation notes that since 1989, April 28th has been recognized by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employers (AFSCME), Building Trades Unions, and the AFL-CIO as Workers Memorial Day.

Tomorrow, Governor Dayton, along with MnDOT Commissioner Tom Sorel, will be attending the Workers Memorial Ceremony in Mankato. At this event, Governor Dayton will be presenting a flag to the family of Michael Struck, a MnDOT employee who died while working on flood prevention efforts earlier this year.
