Toensing, the Minnesota Legislative Manuals, 1875 1885, 1887, 1889, 1901, and 1903; and The Fifteenth Legislature of Minnesota, 1873 list his last name as Durant. The Minnesota Legislative Manual, 1873 lists both Durant and Durand.

He moved to Cincinnati, Ohio around 1831, with his family. They then moved to Illinois in 1839. He came to Minnesota in April 1848, 1849, or 1858.

His party affiliation was provided by The Fifteenth Legislature of Minnesota, 1873, p. 26.

He was an unsuccessful Democratic party candidate for Minnesota Lieutenant Governor.

He was an unsuccessful Democratic party candidate for the United States Senate.
