He was of Swedish ancestry.

He ran unsuccessfully for Ramsey County, Minnesota District Court Judge in the 1940 election.

He was a founder and member of the Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity's Ramsey County chapter. He was a member of the Junior Pioneers and Optimist Club.

His funeral was held at Johnston-Dampier Funeral Home in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was buried in St. Paul's Union Cemetery.
