He came to Minnesota in 1858. He moved to Otter Tail County, Minnesota shortly after the United States Civil War. In the mid-1880s, he moved to Sundal Township, Norman County near Fertile, Minnesota.

Fort Juelson in Otter Tail County is named after him.

He is buried in the Concordia Cemetery in Fertile, Minnesota.
