He moved to Niagara Falls, New York around 1829, with his parents. They moved to Lewiston around 1831. He lived in Illinois for 6 months around 1849, then moved to Menasha, Wisconsin around 1850. He moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1852 He came to Huston County in the Red River Valley, Minnesota in 1852. He went to Colorado to search for gold, then returned to Minnesota in 1859.
