Toensing lists his first name as Wellington. His obituary in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, April 14, 1933 lists William.

He was a Mason and a member of the Knights Templar.

He and James Middleton's wife, Ella Masterman, were second cousins; their fathers were cousins.

He died in his apartment at the Lowell Inn in Washington County, Minnesota from injuries sustained after he was struck by a delivery wagon.
