Personnel Board

Function: The Personnel Board advised the commissioner of personnel on proposed rules or changes; conducted hearings on disciplinary actions against employees in the state's classified service; and recommended salaries for constitutional officers, state department heads, judges, and legislators.
History: The Personnel Board was established in 1973 as part of the Department of Personnel (Laws 1973 c507), and assumed the responsibilities and duties previously held by the Civil Service and Compensation Review boards. The Personnel Board was abolished by the 1980 legislature (Laws 1980 c614 s60), and its duties were transferred to other sections of the Department of Personnel, whose name was changed by the 1980 legislature to the Employee Relations Department (Laws 1980 c617 s2-3).

1980 Minn. Laws Chap. 614 Sec. 60. PERSONNEL BOARD ABOLISHED; TRANSITION. The personnel hoard js abolished. Its duties and functions are transferred as provided for m this act1 All employees of the hoard shall be reassigned to the department of personnel without loss of seniority, salary, benefits or other rights.
Membership: The seven board members were appointed by the governor for four-year terms.
