Advisory Task Force to Review Esthetician Training

Active dates:2011-
Authority:
Function: The Board of Cosmetologist Examiners has called for an informal task force to review the 600 hour esthetician training program as it is constructed under current Minnesota rules and laws. Instruction is required so that licensed estheticians enter the field with the skills to protect the public and public health in their work.

The Task Force will determine what services should be taught during this training and decide if 600 hours is adequate time for a student to gain minimum proficiency in esthiology. If the Task Force finds that 600 hours is not an appropriate amount of instruction time, then it will determine what minimum number of instruction hours would better prepare students to perform in the work force in compliance with MN rules and laws.

The Task Force should determine what activities are important for an entry-level esthetician to be able to perform; the Task Force should keep in mind that the Board is considering proposing legislation for a two-tier license system while determining what activities should be taught/regulated.
History: The Board of Cosmetologist Examiners put together a Task Force to review esthetician training in Minnesota.
