Prison Population Taskforce

Also known as:
Prison Population Task Force
Active dates:2015-2016
Authority:
Established by Senator Ron Latz
Function:

This task force will examine the problem of Minnesota's prison overpopulation.

History:

In September of 2015, Sen. Ron Latz announced this informal task force to address the estimated 500-prisoner overflow in Minnesota. The first meeting was an informal discussion by a group of stakeholders including the Senate Judiciary Committee, members of the House of Representatives, and officials from state and local agencies, among others.

An October 2015 article in House Public Information Office's Session Daily discussed the work of the task force: Task force hears pair of ideas to help address state's excess prison population.

Membership:

The task force is made up of 14 legislative members and 18 agency and public members. The legislators are: Sen. Ron Latz (Co-Chair), Rep. Tony Cornish (Co-Chair), Rep. Raymond Dehn, Sen. Scott Dibble, Sen. Chris Eaton, Sen. Barb Goodwin, Sen. Dan Hall, Rep. Jerry Hertaus, Rep. Debra Hilstrom, Sen. Warren Limmer, Rep. Marion O'Neill, Rep. Paul Rosenthal, and Sen. Kathy Sheran.

Agency heads:

Sen. Ron Latz (Co-Chair) and Rep. Tony Cornish (Co-Chair). Senator Latz will serve as chair of the task force and meeting.

Notes:

The task force is informal, rather than created through statute or executive order.
