Human Services Council

Function: Coordinate and improve the delivery of human services in Minnesota.
History:
On October 5, 1972, Governor Wendell Anderson called for the creation of an interdepartmental council to improve existing delivery systems of human services at the state, local and federal levels - at the time no single state agency by itself carried out the function of coordinating human services.
Executive Order 45 also called for the formation of task forces and/or advisory committees to the Human services Council to represent professional, citizens, and consumer groups in the deliberations of the Council. A task force was put together and tasked with making a final report to the Human Services Council by December 15, 1974. The efforts of the Human Services Council and related task force were to establish a state policy for coordinating the planning, administration, and delivery of human services in Minnesota.
Membership:
The formation of the Human Services Council, shall be composed of the Governor or his representative, the Commissioner of Administration, the Commissioner of Education, the Director of the State Planning Agency, the Commissioner of Welfare, the
Commissioner of Corrections, the Director of the State Health Agency, the Director of the Office of Economic Opportunity, the Commissioner of Manpower Services, the Higher Education Coordinating Commission, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
