Voting Systems Advisory Task Force
Active dates:1984 - 1993
Function: Examines voting machines or electronic voting systems proposed for use in Minnesota and advises the secretary of state on certification of this equipment for use at elections.
Voting Machines Advisory Committee
Authority to create an advisory committee was enacted in 1975 (1975 Minn. Laws Chap. 61 Sec. 3; Minn. Stat. 206.08). Prior to that time there had been a 3-person voting machine commission, including the secretary of state. In 1983 the group was renamed a task force and was made subject to Minn. Stat. 15.059. Task force meets only when new equipment is proposed for use. "The task force is no longer in existence as of August 1993" (Source: Annual compilation and statistical report: membership on state councils, boards and commissions, 1993).
7 members (representation from each major political party and from cities and counties using voting equipment); appointed by secretary of state; terms governed by Minn. Stat. 15.059; compensation governed by Minn. Stat. 15.059.
