Parole Board

Function: The board will have the power to parole and discharge prisoners confined in the state prison, state reformatory or state reformatory for Women.
History: In 1931 the State Board of Parole was made a separate department with three members appointed by the governor. One member served as a full-time director.

In 1933 The Minnesota Probation and Parole Association was formed. In 1966 the Association became the Minnesota Corrections Association.

1959 - The Minnesota Department of Corrections was formed, combining the Youth Conservation Commission, the State Board of Parole and adult institutions formerly administered by the Department of Public Welfare. The Board of Parole was renamed the Adult Corrections Commission.

1959 Minn. Laws Chap. 262 Sec. 3,4 - Name changed from Board of Parole and Probation.
"The name of the board of parole and probation is hereby changed to the adult corrections commission. The duties .of. Chairman of the adult corrections commission are hereby imposed upon the deputy commissioner of corrections controlling and supervising the division of adult corrections in the department of corrections."
Membership: Said board shall be composed of a chairman and two other members, who shall be appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the senate.
