Minnesota Partnership for Action Against Tobacco (MPAAT)
In May 1998, the Minnesota Fourth District Court (Ramsey District Court) required the tobacco companies to pay $202 million from the total $6.1 billion tobacco settlement into a fund for tobacco control work. This was used to create ClearWay Minnesota, an independent nonprofit. ClearWay (formerly MPAAT) is funded with three percent of the state's tobacco settlement funds and operates under the ongoing jurisdiction of the Ramsey County District Court.
The Board's name change is reflected in 2013 Minn. Laws Chap. 142 Art. 3 Sec. 5.
