Rural Task Force

Active dates:Aug. 22, 2014 - 2015
Authority:
A bipartisan group of Senators from rural Minnesota convened this task force
Function: To identify specific needs for rural Minnesota.
History: The Rural Task Force was an eight-member bipartisan group of Senators who came together in fall 2014 to identify specific needs for rural Minnesota. The Task Force met several times in the fall, touching on topics as wide ranging as affordable and accessible health care, safe roads in rural areas, workforce housing and workforce development needs.

This bipartisan Senate task force formed to discuss rural issues because the "needs of Greater Minnesota can be very different than those in the metro area," stated Sen. Tom Saxhaug in a news release on August 22, 2014.

The task force focused on a variety of issues, including: education, health care and nursing home access, transportation, economic development, and property taxes. The Task Force settled on workforce development as the key issue it wanted to tackle during the 2015-16 legislative session.
Membership: 8 senators: Sen. Tom Saxhaug, Sen. Kent Eken, Sen. Vicki Jensen, Sen. Kevin Dahle, Sen. Julie Rosen, Sen. Gary Dahms, Sen. Bill Weber, Sen. Paul Gazelka.
