Hearing Instrument Dispenser Advisory Council

Function: Advises the Minnesota commissioner of health on matters relating to registration and regulation of hearing instrument dispensers including: registration standards, enforcement of registration rules, and continuing education.

History: Minnesota Rules in 1991 established and prescribed the duties of a hearing instrument dispenser advisory council as part of Chapter 4745, Minnesota Department of Health Hearing Instrument Dispenser Registration.

In 1995 the Minnesota Legislature codified Minn. Stat. 153A.20 describing the membership and duties of the Council.

2005 Minn. Laws Chap. 147, Sec. 18, Subd. 1 changed the membership of the Council from nine persons to seven persons.

The Hearing Instrument Dispenser Advisory Council was reviewed by the Legislative Commission on Planning and Fiscal Policy (LCPFP) in 2013 as part of their biennial duty required by Minn. Stat. 3.885 Subd. 11. The LCPFP's 2013 Recommendations called for keeping the council.
Advisory to:
Membership: 7 members (2 public members, 3 hearing instrument dispensers, 1 audiologist or a physician specializing in treatment of diseases of the ear); appointed by commissioner of health; per diem and expenses.
