Legislative Commission on Waste Management
Function: The commission was mandated to review the biennial report of the Waste Management Board, oversee the activities of the board and agency, and direct changes and additions to the work plan of the board and agency. The commission was able to conduct public hearings, secure data, and opinions. The commission made recommendations to the legislature related to alternative methods of insuring that an adequate supply of solid waste will be available to resource recovery facilities. A report about these methods was due before Jan. 1, 1982.
The provisions were originally set to expire June 30, 1987. The expiration date was changed in 1986 Minn. Laws Chap. 425 Sec. 21 to expire on June 30, 1992. In 1986 (1986 Minn. Laws Chap. 465 Art. 3 Sec. 3), the powers and duties were amended to include a review of the agency's project list, municipal needs list reports, and the budget for the agency division of water quality. The commission was eliminated July, 1996, pursuant to 1995 Minn. Laws Chap. 248 Art. 2 Sec. 6 Subd. 1.
