Summer Reading: Something for Everyone
Whether you're interested in housing policy, botany, or historical fiction written by current and former Minnesota legislators, this summer reading list is for you.
Ten Plants That Changed Minnesota are detailed in an new book from the Minnesota Historical Society Press. From apples to wild rice, brush up on your knowledge of notable Minnesota flora during your weekends at the lake. The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America takes a historic look at urban housing policy and examines how that history reverberates in cities today.
A summer reading list would hardly be complete without a few works of fiction. Check out former-Rep. Marty Seifert's Sundown at Sunrise: A Story of Love and Murder, Based on one of the Most Notorious Ax Murders in American History. Or try Rep. Dean Urdahl's 2007 novel Uprising, a work of historical fiction chronicling Minnesotans' experience in the Dakota Conflict of 1862 and the United States Civil War.
