Text: DULUTH - While the ink is still drying on this year's bonding bill, Minnesota representatives are making rounds reflecting on the 2014 legislative session.

Out of the $1 billion in spending included in the bill, all three of Duluth's highest priority projects will be funded through surplus cash.

"It's really difficult to imagine a better session for the City of Duluth in terms of the bonding priorities that we came forward with," Duluth Mayor Don Ness said.

"We love our area. We're ready to build on our area. We're ready to work it, but we also say thank you," Rep. Mary Murphy (DFL-Hermantown) said.

Wade Stadium will get $2.3 million for much needed revitalization and $3.4 million is going to Spirit Mountain to build a new water system.

"For Spirit Mountain it's really going to be game changing," Spirit Mountain Executive Director Renee Mattson said.

NorShor Theatre is getting $6.9 million for restoration.

"It's going to be great for our local arts scene, it's gonna be terrific for downtown business," said Christine Gradlseitz with the Duluth Playhouse.

Lawmakers also applauded the $100 million dedicated to housing across the state and new legislation stopping the retail sale of synthetics.

"That, we think, is gonna prevent another Last Place on Earth from happening," Rep. Erik Simonson (DFL-Duluth) said.

A group of Republican legislators also made a stop in Duluth.

They took issue with single-party Democratic control at the Capitol, increase in spending and parts of what was passed in the bonding bill.

"If I were to summarize anything of this last year and a half or almost two years of Democratic control is misplaced priorities," Rep. Kurt Daudt (R-Crown) said. "Unfortunately they've put themselves before the voters and the taxpayers at every opportunity."

Construction fort the projects is slated for this summer.

The city will match bonding for Wade Stadium and Spirit Mountain with the half and half tourism tax.

The NorShor Theatre will use private funding.

The $200,000 request for the Lake Superior Zoo did not get into the bonding bill.

Officials say they will work with the commissioner of the DNR on a plan for future funding and restoration.
