Dear Majority Leader Bakk and Speaker Thissen:

We received your letter regarding a proposed Special Session. Our top priority is to provide disaster relief to the eighteen counties included in the federal disaster declaration signed by President Obama. We have a rich tradition of supporting Minnesota communities and nothing should stand in the way of Minnesotans receiving the support they need.

Furthermore, in an effort to help hardworking farmers and all Minnesotans, it is critical that we repeal your equipment repair tax and your warehousing tax. Governor Dayton has publicly stated he supports repealing both of his new taxes. We can provide relief by repealing the sales tax on equipment repair that went into effect on July 1 and provide certainty to hardworking Minnesotans about the sales tax on warehousing services effective April 2014.

We are glad you're willing to work in a bipartisan way to repeal the tax increases, which are obstacles to a healthier economy, passed by Democratic legislators and signed into law by Governor Dayton this past legislative session.

Republicans are ready to work together to fix the mistakes Democrats made in the last session and provide the needed disaster relief funds. We should get this work done for all hardworking Minnesotans right now. We cannot wait until next session - Minnesotans cannot afford to pay more for every day necessities. We look forward to continuing discussions with Governor Dayton about a potential Special Session.

Sincerely,

Sen. David Hann, Senate Majority Leader

Rep. Kurt Daudt, House Minority Leader
