REVEREND DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY PROCLAMATION -- January 15, 2007

The following is the text of Governor Pawlenty's Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day proclamation:

WHEREAS: Dr. King continues to shake the nation from complacency with his words, “Nothing in the world is as dangerous as sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity”; and

WHEREAS: Dr. King reminded us, “If we are to go forward, we must go back and discover those precious values -- that all reality hinges on moral foundations and that all reality has spiritual control”; and

WHEREAS: Dr. King urged us to move forward with the statement, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase”; and

WHEREAS: Dr. King encouraged us to look for truth in different places, saying, “Almost always a creative dedicated minority has made the world better”; and

WHEREAS: Dr. King warned us not to underestimate the cost of change when he said, “All progress is precarious and the solution of one problem brings us face to face with another problem”; and

WHEREAS: Dr. King taught us that, “Life’s most urgent question is: What are you doing for others?”

Now, Therefore, I, Tim Pawlenty, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim, that Monday, January 15, 2007, shall be observed as: REVEREND DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY in the State of Minnesota, and that all Minnesotans make it an occasion to reflect on his life, teachings, leadership, faith, character, great accomplishments, and his yet unfulfilled dream, and dedicate ourselves to the pursuit of justice, reconciliation, and peace.
