GOVERNOR PAWLENTY ASKS MINNESOTANS TO REMEMBER VICTIMS OF VIRGINIA TECH SHOOTING ON FRIDAY -- April 19, 2007

Virginia Governor Tim Kaine has requested that bells ring at 11:00 a.m. CDT ~

At the request of Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, Governor Tim Pawlenty today asked Minnesotans to remember the victims of the Virginia Tech tragedy on Friday. Governor Pawlenty is requesting that churches and other buildings with bells ring them at 11:00 a.m. Central Daylight Savings Time (12:00 noon Eastern) on Friday, April 20 to join with Americans across the country honoring the lives that were lost in Monday’s tragic incident.

“Our nation comes together to mourn the senseless loss of life and support the victims, families and friends who are still reeling from this tragedy,” Governor Pawlenty said. “At 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Minnesotans will join with Virginians and people across the nation to pause in remembrance.”

The Commonwealth of Virginia has declared a statewide Day of Mourning on Friday, April 20. Virginia Governor Kaine sent a letter to the nation’s governors this week asking that all Americans stand with his state at that time.

“As our Commonwealth begins the long and difficult healing process resulting from this senseless act of violence, I am filled with images of a Virginia Tech community that is resilient and unified,” Governor Kaine wrote. “I invite you to join with me in standing with those who have lost loved ones in this tragedy and those who are recovering from physical and psychological wounds.”
