The following is a statement from Governor Tim Pawlenty regarding DFL comments that property tax relief is “not really on the way.”

“The DFL property tax plan is a shell game designed to pick money from one pocket and put a little bit back in the other. Moreover, the impact of all the other DFL tax increases exceeds the relief Minnesotans would receive in property tax reductions.

“Property tax relief is not off the table. My budget proposal is a roadmap to significant property tax relief without raising other taxes.

“Statements from DFL leaders today that claim they can’t provide property tax relief without giving Minnesota the third highest income tax rate in the nation are odd when we have a $2.2 billion surplus.”
