Governor Tim Pawlenty spoke with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns by phone today and learned that Secretary Johanns has directed his staff to work as expeditiously as possible to assess conditions in Minnesota and determine whether a federal agricultural disaster declaration is warranted. A decision is expected as soon as tomorrow. The secretary will be in Minnesota Tuesday to attend Farmfest in Redwood Falls. |

GOVERNOR PAWLENTY REQUESTS AGRICULTURAL DISASTER DECLARATION FOR 25 MINNESOTA COUNTIES -- August 3, 2007 |

Governor Tim Pawlenty today sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns requesting a federal agricultural disaster be declared for 25 Minnesota counties, which would allow drought-impacted farmers and ranchers to receive low-interest loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Additionally, the Governor requested that Secretary Johanns declare Roseau County as an agricultural disaster area due to winter grass kill and early excessive rains. |

Governor Tim Pawlenty and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak announced this evening that there will be an Interfaith Prayer Service held on Sunday, August 5, at 7:00 p.m., for members of the public and the families and victims of the 35W bridge tragedy in Minneapolis on August 1. The location of the service will be announced in the days to come. |

Governor Pawlenty signed an emergency executive order today declaring a peacetime emergency and activating the State Emergency Operations Center. The Governor has directed all State agencies to provide necessary assistance to help local, state and federal units of government respond and recover from the collapse of the Interstate 35W bridge spanning the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. The emergency executive order will remain in effect until the conclusion of the emergency. |
